In 2007, Congress made adding pharmaceuticals and vaccines to food illegal, but it continues to fund research that could contaminate the food supply.
TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to stop funding pharma crops!
On November 14, 2023, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY), got the House to vote unanimously to stop funding transgenic edible plant vaccines, but that prohibition was left out of the spending bill passed in March 2024, so your taxpayer dollars are still funding edible plant vaccines.
Edible vaccines aren’t going to be approved for the produce aisle anytime soon, but we’ve known that pharmaceuticals and vaccines have been grown in food crops–and have been contaminating the U.S. food supply–since 2002 when news broke of the ProdiGene scandal.
Congress made adding drugs to food illegal in 2007. In Section 912 of the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007, “Prohibition against food to which drugs or biological products have been added,” Congress forbade adding pharmaceuticals, including vaccines, to food unless the FDA “has issued a regulation, after notice and comment, approving the use of such drug or such biological product in the food.” The FDA never created a process for this, so no pharmaceutical food has ever been commercialized, but many are being tested–funded by Congress with our tax dollars.
Pharmaceuticals and vaccines might not be added to food legally, but they are contaminating food illegally.
The only way to stop this is to cut off the funding to this research!

Dear Member of Congress,
On November 14, 2023, the U.S. House of Representatives voted unanimously to stop funding transgenic edible plant vaccines, but that prohibition was left out of the final version of that spending bill, so our tax dollars are still funding edible plant vaccines.
In Section 912 of the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007, “Prohibition against food to which drugs or biological products have been added,” Congress forbade adding pharmaceuticals, including vaccines, to food unless the FDA “has issued a regulation, after notice and comment, approving the use of such drug or such biological product in the food.” The FDA never created a process for this, so no pharmaceutical food has ever been commercialized, but many are being tested, most funded by Congress with our tax dollars.
Pharmaceuticals and vaccines might not be added to food legally, but they are contaminating food illegally.
The only way to stop this is to cut off the funding to this risky research!
Please take action to stop funding pharma crops!
Thank you.
Sincerely,
