Dear [Member of Congress],
I cordially invite you to a reception in the Rayburn Foyer at 5 pm on September 10, 2025, catered by Founding Farmers.
The event is sponsored by the Organic & Natural Health Association and its My Health Alliance, including the Alliance for Natural Health, the American Grassfed Association, the American Herbal Products Association, the Grassroots Health Vitamin D Coalition, Homeopathy Choice, Moms Across America, Natural Grocers, the Non-GMO Project, Organic Consumers Association, and SENPA, the Natural Industry Alliance.
These organizations each have their core causes, but they are coming together under the banner of organic food and natural health. They represent people like me who, like the majority of your constituents, would prefer to eat food that isn't contaminated with genetically modified organisms, pesticides, synthetics, or toxins. We seek health care that makes sure we have healthy microbiomes, the nutrients we need, and access to supplements, medicinal herbs, and homeopathic remedies.
In that spirit, at the reception you will be invited to get your vitamin D level tested.
If your vitamin D level is below 40, your health may be in danger—and if you’re pregnant, your growing baby’s health may be at risk too.
Vitamin D insufficiency is linked to multiple conditions including bone, respiratory, and cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and cancer. People who keep their vitamin D levels up have fewer emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and ICU admissions–for any reason, including due to COVID-19.
Adequate vitamin D levels before and during pregnancy prevent:
- Preterm birth, including due to placental abruption
- Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and maternal infections
- Medically necessary C-sections
- Fetal growth restriction, neurodevelopmental disorders, and early childhood asthma
And, yet, few health care providers are monitoring pregnant mothers’ vitamin D levels, leaving 89 percent with levels below 40 ng/ml and 31 percent below 20 ng/ml!
One dose does not fit all when it comes to vitamin D. Measuring levels is the only way to know.
Ensuring everyone gets enough is one of the most inexpensive ways to insure mother and babies health and reduce health care costs.
We are asking for policy reform to ensure providers monitor pregnant mothers’ vitamin D levels—when most are deficient—given that measuring is the only way to know, and ensuring adequate levels is a low-cost way to improve newborn health and reduce costs these reforms should include:
- Prenatal clinical guidelines
- Insurance reimbursement policies
- Provider education
- Public awareness
I hope you can attend the Organic & Natural Health Association's My Health Alliance Reception in the Rayburn Foyer at 5 pm on September 10, 2025.
Thank you.
